The name’s origin: Opal takes its name from the Latin word Upala meaning precious stone.

Color:  Opal which have a rainbow-like iridescence. Opal is a very fun stone which has many colors. Red Opals are called “Fire opals“. Peruvian Blue Opal and Peruvian Pink Opal lack “fire”, however come in extremely attractive colors.

Enhancement Method: Some opals are treated with oil, wax or resin to enhance their finish. Store opals in water soaked cotton wool to slow loss of water. Opals are sensitive to pressure and blows, as well as heat and chemicals.

Hardness: 6.5

Care and treatment: Do not expose this stone to prolonged natural light or to heat as the fire and color will fade.

Healing ability: Opal is said to keep blonde hair from fading with age.

Mystical power: To enhance personal power, wear a black opal. Use fire opals with caution if you are very sensitive to energy, as it may make you jumpy or uncomfortable. It is their belief that the opal represents something an ancestor left behind as a sign of his or her presence.

Deposits: It is found near the earth’s surface in areas where ancient geothermal hot springs once flowed.  Southern Australia, Brazil, Mexico, Kenya, Brazil, Peru, Canada, Honduras, Czechoslovakia and Nevada. All black opals come exclusively from Australia.

Care and treatment: Because Pearls are organic gemstones and relatively soft, and porous, they should be worn with care.

Healing ability: Said to relieve indigestion when ground up and drank–however, this is a rather expensive antacid. Thought to increase fertility and ease the pain of childbirth. Perls eliminate emotional imbalances. They help one master the heart chakra, aid stomach, spleen, intestinal tract & ulcer problems.

Mystical power: A pearl is the product of an oyster’s defense mechanism. Pearl is said to help one see themselves and help improve self-worth. As an emblem of modesty, chastity and purity, the pearl symbolizes love, success, and happiness.
